Dear Readers,
As we begin 2012, we are reminded of the past year; both the good and the not-so-good. We are also filled with thoughts for the coming year that all of our hopes and wishes will come true. What I choose to think about as this New Year begins are our days of beautiful sunshine, pristine golf courses, the recreation that is only an ATV ride away, and all of our caring residents who have chosen to make Mesquite their home.
Please take the time to read our new contributors articles. We have chosen to focus on our youth and health, as well as our regular articles. Your feedback on the new sections, as well as anything we bring to you in our magazine, is welcomed. As always please shop local when you can, and thank our advertisers for their support of the magazine. It is because of them that we can continue to bring View On Mesquite Magazine into your homes.
If you have missed issues, or just want to get to know Mesquite a little better, you are welcome to visit our website at www.viewonmesquite.com where all issues are archived, and where an interactive calendar and videos of our local events can be found.
We have also updated our contest with Awesome Adventures. Please take a minute to enter. Who knows…you just might win an Awesome Adventure of your own.
We have so much to look forward to this year. Mesquite is a wonderful place to live, love and play.
Enjoy the New Year!

My wife, Sandy, and I were both raised in southern California, where I worked in law enforcement for almost thirty years. During this time, Sandy was a homemaker doing a wonderful job of raising our two children. When it came time to start looking for a retirement location out of the Los Angeles area, we initially moved to Utah, and then to Montana. However, I felt I was using my snow blower more than my lawn mower. We then began looking for a sunny warm, friendly place to settle down. We had traveled through Mesquite several times over the years and the weather was always warm and comfortable…no snow blower needed. Sun City was in its first year of operation and, needless to say, we both fell in love with the lifestyle that it and Mesquite offered. The restaurants, golf and other activities made this a wonderful place to live. We are proud to think of Mesquite as our “forever” home.

We first came to Mesquite in 2007 to celebrate the Fourth of July with friends we had recently met on a cruise who made their home here. We had spent many years vacationing in Vegas, but had never heard about Mesquite. When we came, we saw a quaint, clean, friendly town surrounded by beautiful mountains. We had such a good time seeing the fireworks display and staying at the Casablanca. We felt comfortable here and liked the idea of being close to Vegas and close to so many nice national parks. After our visit, we went home and decided to, one day, make Mesquite our home, and this year it finally happened. We have met and made more friends in the three months since we moved here than we could have ever imagined. Moving here was one of the best decisions we’ve ever made. We are having such a good time with so many people and can’t imagine living anywhere else.
